Our Parish Priest: Fr Conor Stainton-Polland, MA BD

Welcome to our parish website including frequently updated information on the Parish and its activities.
The links, along the left hand side of this page, give you the opportunity to keep up to date via our parish newsletter and have a look at some views of the Church through the year.

In this website we have kept to, FX Velarde's, the Church Architect and designer, colour scheme of green and gold. A visitor to our Church will see these colours dominate the Sanctuary in the Baldachinno and Altar, reflected throughout the Church in the Stations of the Cross, the floor and ceiling. The Parish was established in 1922 and the Church completed in 1930 and the influence of the Art Deco movement can clearly be seen in the figures on the altar and of the stations of the cross. The Church is also significant architecturally in the arches, all of which are Romanesque rather than the gothic form preferred in earlier Churches.

Come and see! If you do so you will find more than just interesting art but a warm welcome from the people of this area of the City of Liverpool. Having a particular affection for this parish, it being the first Parish in the city I ever worked in when I was a student ten years ago, I am delighted to have been asked to be its Parish Priest in 2005 and find on my return the same welcome and willingness to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed I experienced those years ago.

Parish Forum Minutes: 1st July 2010
Present, Fr. Conor, Joan Purcell, Ronny Burke, Dave Cotterill, Agnes Williams, Eddie Cawley
Apologies, Paula Burke, Kath Shaw, Paula O’Toole
Fr. Conor opened the meeting with a review of the minutes from the previous meeting.
Women’s Group: The group continues to be well attended and is planning at the next meeting to discuss involvement in the Macmillan Cancer Support Tea Party and knitting squares fund raising ventures. .
Sacramental Programme: The First Communion celebrations were this year particulary prayerful and beautiful occasions of grace. Fr. Conor commended all the staff, parishioners and parents who had contributed so much to the preperations. The Confirmation group this year consisted of a small but good group of young people who responded well to their preparation.
CaFE: Though attendance continued to be disappointing those who attended found it a beneficial contribution to their faith understanding. Next year we will have a year off CaFE  and have a different series of talks. A new screen will be acquired for the projector. Future CaFE courses will be advertised across the Pastoral Area.
Eddie’s Ordination: Eddie expressed how overwhelmed he had been by the response and support of the parish. All agreed the day had been one of great grace for the parish and had been a great day from start to finish.
Pastoral Area Trip to Bala: Good reports were received from those who went on this pilgrimage.
A.O.B.
40 Hours: Initial preparations for this October’s 40 Hours of Adoration were discussed relating to ordering: candles, candle stands, envelopes and labels alerting the flower ladies.
Fr. Emmanuel: Eddie noted this year is Fr. Emmanuel’s 25th anniversary of ordination. A collection will be held in late July/early August for a presentation to him during his time with us in September. More details in forthcoming newsletters.
Ecumenical Endeavours: Dave reported that after a lengthy process of engagement he felt the busyness of other churches was hindering potential formal relations and that it would be best, for the moment, to wait for a future date to pursue this aspect of our parish’s community involvement. Fr. Conor thanked Dave for his long efforts.
Prayer Group: Dave reported the first meeting of the prayer group will take place on 12th July to which all parishioners who wish to deepen their personal prayer life and learn new methods would be most welcome.
Pastorla Area Working Group: Joan requested that, with her many other commitments, she finish her representative role on this group. Fr. Conor agreed and invited Dave Cotterill to take her place on this and the Spirituality sub group, Dave was pleased to accept.
Meeting closed with prayers.
Next meeting: Thursday 19th August at 7.00pm
