Our Parish Priest: Fr Conor Stainton-Polland, MA BD

Welcome to our parish website including frequently updated information on the Parish and its activities.
The links, along the left hand side of this page, give you the opportunity to keep up to date via our parish newsletter and have a look at some views of the Church through the year.

In this website we have kept to, FX Velarde's, the Church Architect and designer, colour scheme of green and gold. A visitor to our Church will see these colours dominate the Sanctuary in the Baldachinno and Altar, reflected throughout the Church in the Stations of the Cross, the floor and ceiling. The Parish was established in 1922 and the Church completed in 1930 and the influence of the Art Deco movement can clearly be seen in the figures on the altar and of the stations of the cross. The Church is also significant architecturally in the arches, all of which are Romanesque rather than the gothic form preferred in earlier Churches.

Come and see! If you do so you will find more than just interesting art but a warm welcome from the people of this area of the City of Liverpool. Having a particular affection for this parish, it being the first Parish in the city I ever worked in when I was a student ten years ago, I am delighted to have been asked to be its Parish Priest in 2005 and find on my return the same welcome and willingness to proclaim the Gospel in word and deed I experienced those years ago.

Parish Forum Minutes 20th May, 2009
Present: Fr. Conor, Agnes Williams, Dave Cotterill, Eddie Cawley, Kath Shaw, Paula Burke, Paula O’Toole, Ronny Burke
Apologies: Joan Purcell, Joe McGunigle,
Fr. Conor opened the meeting with a review of the minutes from the previous meeting.
Women’s Group: Agnes confirmed that there is still a good response from the ladies of the parish.
Parish Trip: Dave confirmed that there has been a great response from the parish and 2 coaches would be required. Prices £5.00 adults / £3.00 children. Fr. Conor confirmed that the total cost would once again be subsidised by the parish.
Diaconate: Eddie confirmed that his course is going well and that he will be told in September of the date of his Ordination in 2010.
Parish Signage: Fr. Conor confirmed that the signs have been ordered and are now in production.
Reconciliation: Paula ‘B’ stated that due to commitments no further meetings had taken place. Fr. Conor stated that there was plenty of time and that perhaps it would be appropriate to plan something for during Advent.
Fundraising: Agnes confirmed that both the fundraising and social events for 2009 have been booked. Tickets for the fundraising event on 12th June will go on sale this weekend (23rd/24th May) price £2.50. Fr. Conor agreed to supply the music becoming DJ for the event. Agnes confirmed the main prizes for the Grand Summer Raffle: 1st: £200.00, 2nd: Flat screen TV, 3rd: £100.00 plus many other prizes. The raffle will run until September and if possible parishioners will be asked to take 2 books each to sell to friends and family.
Easter: Fr. Conor stated that Easter was lovely and thanked all who helped and prepared the church.

AOB:
Holy Communion: Fr. Conor mentioned that recently, as a parish, we received Holy Communion as ‘one kind’, it was agreed that this had been notably more peaceful. Fr. Conor suggested we might continue with this practice every 3rd Sunday with which there was agreement.
Bidding Prayers: Fr. Conor stated that he will continue with the Wednesday evening Mass which gives both workers and children the opportunity to attend. Fr. Conor will meet with parishioners after Mass to compose the Bidding Prayers for the coming weekend. This way we can take ownership for the Bidding Prayers rather than them being generalised.
Children’s Group: Paula ‘O’ confirmed that preparations are still in progress. Fr. Conor agreed to help if necessary. School facilities were discussed.
CaFE: All present involved in CaFE agreed that all is going well.
Ecumenical Events: Dave confirmed that he had liaised with St. Andrew’s and the preferred choice of joint event is probably a barbecue in the park. Dave also agreed to explore the possibility of Christian group ‘Boyce and Stanley’ visiting our parish in 2010.
Sacrament of Confirmation: Fr. Conor confirmed that Bishop Vincent Malone will celebrate Mass at the Cathedral. Paula ‘B’ confirmed that the course is going well and that one of our young people will read at the Mass.
1st Holy Communions: Fr. Conor stated how lovely everything was and thanked Prayer Friends, Catechists and all who were involved on the day.
Altar Servers: Eddie stated that the new Altar Server still had to receive their medals. Fr. Conor agreed that a Mass should take place at 11.00am on a Saturday morning, possibly in early July, followed by a trip to bowling and a meal. Paula ‘O’ supplied some information and agreed to price a small coach/minibus.
Eucharistic Ministers: Ronny asked Fr. Conor if Ministers could meet on a regular basis. Fr. Conor to consider.
Next meeting: Thursday 9th July at 7.00pm
